Humanitarian, philanthropist, and clothier Isaac “Ike” Behar is the founder of and visionary behind the renowned IKE BEHAR clothing line. Behar is also a long-time supporter of the Latin Auxiliary of Douglas Gardens, an influential group of community members who support programs at Miami Jewish Health Systems, a non-for-profit healthcare organization in Miami which is near and dear to Ike Behar’s heart.

Miami Beach resident Ike Behar grew up in pre-revolutionary Cuba where, as the son of one of Havana’s finest tailors, he learned the art of custom shirt tailoring. At age 20, he left Havana with $50 in his pocket and the dream of building a new life in America and a new empire in fashion. After a career which included mentoring and partnering with Ralph Lauren, Behar became one of the greatest names in American apparel manufacturing and design.

Behar’s work as an active participant in the Latin Auxiliary includes helping to fund programs at Miami Jewish Health Systems such as the Music Therapy Program. The Music Therapy Program helps promote the health and well-being of the organization’s nursing home residents through donations which help afford a full-time board certified music therapist, musical instruments, a wide range of music media and recordings, as well as support equipment and resources.

As a result of his humanitarian efforts, Ike Behar was awarded the Latin Auxiliary’s Lifetime Achievement Award held at its annual Luncheon & Boutique on June 17, 2010.

Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor, was among the first tycoons to develop assembly line manufacturing to automobile production. He was considered a pioneer in industrial production.

Together with Edsel Ford, Henry Ford’s son, they formed the Ford Foundation in 1936. Basically, the private organization, which is headquartered in New York City, intends to improve the wellbeing of society. It makes grants through its main office in New York and through its other offices across the globe. Its first international office, which was developed in 1952, is located in New Delhi, India.

Fords Foundation’s first donation was in support of the enhancement of the broadcasting system in 1951. Later on, it contributed $1 million to the Children’s Television Workshop in the creation and launching of Sesame Street.

In the fiscal year of 2007, Ford’s charity reported assets of $13.7 billion and made official its $530 million in donations for projects that center on strengthening democratic principles, community and economic advancement, media, human rights, education and arts and culture.

The Ford Foundation is the third biggest charitable organization in the United States. It expanded to serve causes across the country and throughout the world in 1950 and eventually sold all of the Ford Motor Company shares. Today, the foundation continues to focus on the goals first set by Henry Ford.

Anthony “Tony” Robbins, born on February 29th 1960 in California, is known in America as a self help author and speaker who coaches world leaders, business individuals and even sports professionals. He is also known for holding lively motivational seminars. Internationally, he is known for appearing in various infomercials, talk shows, TV interviews and radio programs. He has also appeared as himself in a Hollywood romantic comedy starring Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow, Shallow Hal.

As an active philanthropist, Tony Robbins formed his own charity called the Anthony Robbins Foundation. It started out as a campaign to give away bags of groceries anonymously to poverty stricken homes every year at Thanksgiving Day. Through the years, it has improved and now serves over 500,000 individuals each year all over the world. His philanthropic organization performs such deeds particularly during the holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. What Tony Robbins’ foundation also does is inspire, educate and train those who are deprived financially and emotionally in the society.

Writing inspirational books is his other way of helping other people. In fact, he has created book and audio programs titled Awaken the Giant Within, which motivates readers and listeners in controlling their physical, financial and emotional health; and Unlimited Power, which aims to make people trust in themselves in overcoming fears.

Through its Neighborhood Leaders Program, Cydcor has supported more than a dozen charities. Cydcor’s philanthropic credentials, spearheaded by Gary Polson, are impressive for this midsized company based in Westlake Village, California.

Cydcor’s charities have included:

These goods were collected within a week of the disaster.

Cydcor’s community have also given vital support to the Massachusetts Special Olympics, Miami and Ohio Habitat for Humanity, Project Bread in Mass, Boys & Girls Club of Venice Beach, Muscular Dystrophy Association, American Cancer Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, March of Dimes, Corazon a Corazon, Philabundance (NJ Food Bank), and Cattyshack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary.

Samuel Moore Walton is a man whose legacy will live long after him. The retailing mogul, who created the World’s Largest Retailer ($374.526 billion in sales, fiscal year ending January 31, 2008), Wal-Mart, has operations with various business models from neighborhood markets, discount stores and supercenters. Internationally, it employs over 2 million associates to cover its 4,100 branches in the United States as well as over 3,100 facilities in other countries such as Canada, China, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, and United Kingdom among others.

The company that the legend built also holds the title of being the Largest Corporate Cash Contributor in America as recognized by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Sam Walton was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in the year 1918. He passed away in 1992, and in his passing, left the distinction of having accumulated the largest American family fortune.

In his autobiography, Made in America: My Story, Sam Walton’s own ideals are clearly shown to have shaped the culture of giving across all his businesses and relations. He wrote about how important it was to encourage ordinary people to do extraordinary things. This is philanthropy at its truest core.

In 1987, upon his wife Helen’s encouragement, he put in $1,000 for his family foundation. Upon his death, he bequeathed a trust fund valued at $172 million exclusively for this institution. Wal-Mart Foundations and The Walton Family Foundation are the pioneer organizations, while there are also quite a number of philanthropic commitments that his family has established over the years.

• Sam Walton and his entire family have been the consistent guardians of advocacies for education. One recipient is the Knowledge for Power Program, geared toward public education and exploring financing alternatives for the sector.
• The Walton Family Foundation provides support through PRIs/loans, scholarships to deserving individuals, program and curriculum development, as well as technical assistance.
• Among the highest aid Sam Walton and his empire provided are:
• $3,000,000 – Blue Ridge School in Dyke, Virginia
• $1,177,709 – Center for Education Reform, Washington DC
• $1,270,304 – the International Community Foundation San Diego, California
• $500,000 – National Center for Educational Accountability, Austin, Texas
• $421,500 – Minnesota Association of Charter Schools
• A report by The National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy highlighted how the financial donations of the Waltons have indeed become greater than their monetary value as they continue to change the lives of thousands. BusinessWeek named the Walton Family as one of The 50 Top American Givers in 2008.

He remains an active advocate of libertarian causes, despite his failed bid as Vice-Presidential candidate under the Libertarian Party in the 1980 US presidential election. In recognition of his philanthropic contributions, he was awarded the prestigious Corporate Citizens Award by the Woodrow Wilson International Center.

• David Koch has given large donations to cancer research to find a cure for a disease that has afflicted him for 15 years. He pledged $2 million to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University to build a new building for cancer research. Likewise, he has donated $15 million to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. In both institutes, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors.
• David Koch has furthered research on evolution and paleontology, funding the American Museum of Natural History with a $20 million grant.
• David Koch has played a key role in supporting educational institutions. He contributed $1 million to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the construction of a new building for cancer research. He bankrolled the construction of Deerfield Academy’s $68 million state-of-the-art Koch Center for mathematics, science and technology.
• David Koch has remained an advocate of libertarian ideology of minimizing government role and maximizing private involvement in the economy. He has contributed hefty sums to Cato Institute, Citizens for a Sound Economy, and the Institute for Justice, the Reason Foundation, the Heartland Institute, the Libertarian Party, the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy, and the George Mason University.
• David Koch has also contributed to the development of the arts and communications. He pledged over $100 million for the renovation of the New York State Theater. He is also one of the biggest corporate donors for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) show Nova.
• David Koch has also contributed $10 million to the ACLU in relation to crushing Parts 15, 16 and 17 of the US Patriot Act.

Philip Hampson Knight, co-founder of Nike, Inc. built the company along with track coach at Bill Bowerman to carry out a plan he developed while taking his masters degree at Stanford University. The plan was to make low-cost running shoes in Japan and sell them in the United States. It became a reality when he founded Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. Its first shoes, called Tigers, immediately gained a cult following among runners during track meets. After acquiring trademark on the “Swoosh” logo, Knight changed the company name to Nike, after the Greek goddess of victory. The rest is history. Nike revolutionized the athletics shoe industry, posting record-breaking growth year after year.

Philip Knight, a native of Portland, Oregon, was born on February 24, 1938. He attended Cleveland High School and the University of Oregon where he became a dedicated track athlete and earned a degree in journalism. He earned a masters degree in business administration from Stanford University in California.

Philip Knight has come a long way from a middle-distance runner to become an American billionaire, garnering a net worth of US$10.5 billion after his resignation as CEO of Nike, making him the 31st richest American.

Following his resignation, Knight has intensified his philanthropic efforts directed at athletics development, higher education, and cancer research; making historically large contributions to universities and institutes in his native Oregon.

In support of his alma mater, Knight has continued to support athletics at the University of Oregon, contributing an estimated $230 million dollars. Together with wife Penny, Knight also contributed $100 million to the University of Oregon’s Athletics Legacy Fund in 2007.

Philip Knight has supported expansion efforts of Stanford University Graduate School of Business, donating an unprecedented $105 million, the largest donation to a business school in history. The donation was for the construction of a new campus to be called the Knight Management Center. In addition, Knight also donated to his high school alma mater Cleveland High School for the construction of a sports complex.

In memory of the Knights’ close friend Linda Conant who died of cancer, Knight has channeled funding for extensive cancer research. In October 2008, Knight and his wife Penny donated $100 million to the Oregon Health and Science University for the construction of the OHSU Cancer Institute, also the largest donation given to the university. Knight considers the gift a tribute to acclaimed cancer researcher Dr. Brian Druker and his efforts for Oregon to lead in treatment and prevention of cancer. In recognition of the couple’s generosity, the university’s cancer institution has been renamed the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.

At age 69, Carlos Slim Helu has made a huge impact on the Telecommunications Industry in Mexico and Latin America. Owning a telecommunications conglomerate and two mobile network operators, Slim was named the third wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $35 billion from investments. Another venture of Helu is the America Movil, which is the fourth largest mobile network operator and the largest conglomerate in Latin America. A subsidiary of America Movil is Telcel, which is the foremost provider of wireless services in Mexico.

In 1996, Helu took over the Fundación Telmex, which has granted a total of 186,771 scholarships for the academically gifted students of Mexico. The foundation also supports social bonds, transplants, rural operations in the city, and offers humanitarian aid to populations distressed in natural disasters.

Carlos Slim Helu also organized the Fundación del Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México, otherwise called the Mexico City Historical Center Foundation, a non-profit civil institution created in 2000. The following points are objectives of this foundation:

• More security and better public services
- Modernization of the drainage infrastructure and renewal of sidewalks; installment of new security equipment in security vehicles that roam around the vicinity of the Historical Center

• Economic and social wellbeing of its inhabitants
- Hospitals, asylums and health clinics get support for better apparatuses;
Better education, improvement of academic level in teaching staff

• Revitalization
- Providing housing at reasonable prices, invites services, commercial and entertainment businesses to settle and establish in the area

• Restoration and conservation of Buildings
- Convert and develop real properties used as warehouse and offices into houses

The foundation’s major goal is to rescue Mexico City’s historic downtown and possibly get more people to work, live and find entertainment in the urban space. Carlos Slim Helu is the Historical Center’s Executive Officer and Chairman.

Philip Frederick Anschutz began working his way to success by taking after his father in the lucrative wildcatting business. His first test happened when his initial oil find in Gillette, Wyoming caught fire. What the resilient Philip Anschutz did was charge Universal Studios, which was filming a biopic on Red Adair, $100,000 for the right to put out the fire that they needed in a crucial scene. He then went on to discover another significantly bigger wildcat find in Utah that placed him and his father in the $500 million bracket when it produced one billion barrels. By 1976, Philip Anschutz had titles in Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Texas for oil field sites as well as cattle ranches, coal and uranium mines.

Philip Anschutz’s investments consist of sports teams (professional basketball-L.A Lakers, hockey-L.A Kings), railroads (Union Pacific), ranches, newspapers, film production and movie theaters (Regal Cinemas), oil, and telecommunication (Qwest Communications International Incorporated). He also owns the London Arena, the Dome, the Nokia Theatre in Texas, and the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Today, the 68-year-old oil tycoon with an $8.0 billion net worth is also making a name for himself as a philanthropist. Philip Anschutz, a Republican, has a number of strongly conservative organizations that he supports financially.

• Philip Anschutz is a major donor in the Anschutz Family Foundation that his parents established in 1982. From a $4.5 million endowment, the assets of the institution grew in the past two decades to a $54 million value with $28,035,671 of it awarded through the 5,241 grants meant to push for humanitarian needs in Colorado.
• Over the last decade, he has donated more than $23 million to the Foundation for a Better Life and the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
• He is also a staunch advocate of value-centered groups like the Institute for American Value that addresses marriage and single parenting issues and a campaign against Internet pornography called Enough is Enough.
• In the course of six years, Philip Anschutz has allotted 80% of his $110 million total donations to charities in Colorado.
• In recent years, he has become actively involved in moralistic filmmaking with movies like “Holes” (gross: $67 million), “Because of Winn-Dixie” (gross: $30 million), and C.S. Lewis’ “Chronicles of Narnia” (book-to-film). Philip Anschutz once stressed the importance of movies not just as a form of entertainment but also as a carrier of moral messages.

Sir Tom Hunter (born Thomas Blane Hunter) started out as the son of a grocer and later on became a Scottish billionaire with an estimated wealth of £1.06 billion. Aside from his enormous reputation as one of Britain’s richest individuals, Sir Tom Hunter is also a notable philanthropist. What is more impressive about his life story is that he has used his immense wealth to serve the common good, believing that “a man who dies rich, dies disgraced”.

Sir Tom is the son of businessman Campbell Hunter, owner of grocer’s shops in the coal mining town of New Cumnock. After the coal mines shut down and the family business closed, Hunter graduated from the Business School of Strathclyde University. After graduation, he considered the difficulty of getting a job and developed an idea of selling trainers and suits. He started out his retail market from the back of van, and then built Sports Division that later on became UK’s biggest retailer, possessing 250 stores and more than 7,000 employees.

His philanthropic enthusiasm, inspired by Andre Carnegie, is built around the realization that “making money was only half of the equation”. To solve the other half, Sir Tom Hunter, together with his wife, continues to engage actively in various philanthropic efforts. As a result, he is the most generous individual in the UK.

To promote his initiatives, Sir Tom Hunter established The Hunter Foundation in 1998. The foundation has supported, and continues to support, numerous entrepreneurial and education initiatives in Scotland and elsewhere.

He has grossed over £1.01 billion in charitable contributions. His many donations and contributions concentrate on organizations addressing poverty, education, and promoting entrepreneurship.

Among them include a donation of £1m to BBC Children in Need Appeal, £7m to Bob Gedof’s Band Aid appeal, a £1m contribution to support the Make Poverty History campaign, £100,000 in the cause-oriented concert Live 8, and a pledge of £1m for tsunami victims in the Indian Ocean. He has advanced entrepreneurship in his native Scotland by funding a £500,000 joint project with the Scottish Executive and a £5m donation to establish the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde. He recently worked with former US President Bill Clinton’s William J. Clinton Foundation, donating £100 million to promote good governance in Africa through the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative.

In recognition of his exemplary philanthropic work in education, he received the Beacon Fellowship Prize in 2003. Sir Tom Hunter received knighthood in 2005 for “services to Philanthropy and to Entrepreneurship in Scotland”.

A consistent ranker in the exclusive Forbes World’s Richest People list, Dan L. Duncan ranked 117th in 2008, then 81st the year after with a net value of $8.2 billion. Profiled in several other prominent philanthropic rosters as well, he is one of BusinessWeek’s 50 Top American Givers of 2008 and the 2006 Slate 60.

As a prostate cancer survivor, he made it a point to name Houston’s Baylor College of Medicine (where he was diagnosed in 1995 and subsequently treated) as one of his primary beneficiaries. Dan Duncan does whatever he can to support the college’s work and mission. He is truly a man of his word.

Aside from serving as one of its board of trustees, he and his family have been stalwart financial supporters of Baylor. In February 2003, a $2 million donation established an endowed chair named the Dan L. Duncan Family Chair in Prostate Disease. Presented in September 2004, a total of $35 million went to Baylor Clinic, the college’s adult ambulatory care center. One more transformational gift was for the college’s Cancer Center, which Dan Duncan committed $100 million to in 2006.

In 2008, the Dan L. Duncan Family Foundation enabled The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to advance its research in cancer within the context of medically underserved and minor communities. Through the $35 million given by the foundation, The Dan Duncan Family Institute for Cancer Prevention and Risk Assessment came into being. This is only one of the many gifts that the family has awarded the institution in its over 25 years of generosity.

Dan Duncan is also actively involved with the Texas Heart institute, The Children’s Learning Institute at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Houston Museum of Natural Science ($5 million paleontology renovation donation in 2006), and the Texas Children’s Hospital’s Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute ($50 million commitment for completion in 2010).

The Houston Zoo Incorporated, Texas Wildlife Association, Exotic Wildlife Association, and the Boy Scouts of America, are other non-medical organizations that have been recipients of Dan Duncan’s aid.

In 1996, Dan Duncan was recognized for his “Outstanding support of wildlife conservation, lifetime hunting achievement and dedication to the principles of ethical sport hunting,” with the Weatherby Award.

He currently serves as the chairman of the board/director of Enterprise Products Partners LP, Duncan Energy Partners LP, and Enterprise GP Holdings LP, all of which he founded. Dan Duncan is included in the Texas Business Hall of Fame upon his induction in 2003.

With Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Hank Greenberg as philanthropic role models, it comes as no surprise that Ronald Perelman would follow in their footsteps in being the change people wish to see in the world. Over the years, Ron Perelman has been consistently on the rise as he moved from 104th in 2007 to 87th in 2008 and finally 35th on the Forbes World’s Richest People in 2009. His net worth is estimated at $10 billion as of 2008.

Cumulatively, from 2002-2006, he has contributed $65.4 million to various non-profit organizations. A remarkable deed on his part involved giving $70 million in just 2007-2008 alone. The main recipient of this charitable gift is Perelman Family Foundation, which has an estimated $5.9 million in assets, with Ron Perelman as primary benefactor. He has also made considerable political donations of $92,600 to both the Democratic and Republican parties.

As his personal advocacies lean to arts, religion, education and health care related issues, Ron Perelman has made it a point to be an influential member of several charity boards. Founder of the Revlon/UCLA Women’s Cancer Research Program, he also established New York University Medical Center’s Department of Dermatology (which is named after him).

Ron Perelman is a patron of the arts, through his role as the president of the Guggenheim Museum. Serving on the Boards of The University of Pennsylvania (Wharton Board of Overseers, and former Wharton’s Graduate Executive Board), Carnegie Hall and NYU Medical Center, he has given time and effort as well in championing education. In 1995, the Perelman Quadrangle was built in the University of Pennsylvania. A decade prior to that, the Ronald O. Perelman Professorship in Finance was created. At Princeton University, he also established the Ronald Perelman Institute of Jewish Studies in 1995.

Recently, one of his biggest transformational gifts of yet was to the New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical Center. The $50 million additional funding is crucial in creating the Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute. It also helps provide the necessary financial aid to the Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine.

Accomplishing his undergraduate degree from the distinguished University of Pennsylvania, he proceeded to finish his MBA at Wharton. He is currently the Chairman of the Board for M&F Worldwide Corporation and Revlon Consumer Products Incorporated. Ron Perelman is also a director in these two organizations, as well as in Scientific Games Corporation and MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings (where he is also Co-founder).

Robert R. Rowling of TRT Holdings is a prominent figure in educational philanthropy through the Rowling Family Foundation, which has $ 9.2 million in assets. One of his most recent generous acts is the Reese M. Rowling Hall, an infrastructure that includes the Touchdown club suite area, 62 stadium suites, UT Athletics staff members’ office and The University of Texas Club. Located on Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium’s east face, this became a reality because of the $5 million Longhorn Legacy gift from Robert Rowling in honor of his father. Although not an alumnus like his son, Reese Rowling was a devoted benefactor to the school’s athletics and academics in his lifetime.

Over the years, Robert Rowling’s transformational donations include the university’s men’s and women’s basketball practice facility and Denton A. Cooley Pavilion. An indoor practice facility, nicknamed “The Bubble” by the students, is at the Frank Denius Fields.

Today, he is a member of the national board of Young Life and the board of Guaranty Financial Group Incorporated. Until February 2009, he sat on the University of Texas System Board of Regents. Robert Rowling is also The University of Texas Investment Management Company’s incumbent chairman of the board. Recipient of the Southern Methodist University Dedman Law School Distinguished Alumni Award, he has a number of other recognitions under his belt. He was inducted into the All-American Wildcatters, The University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame, and Texas Business Hall of Fame.

An alumnus of the University of Texas Austin, he proceeded to graduate from the Southern Methodist University as a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Today, with a net worth of $6.4 billion, he is ranked among the top tier of Forbes’ exclusive lists. In 2008, he was profiled as the 55th Richest American. The following year saw him secure the 124th spot in the World’s Billionaires.

Robert Rowling’s initial capital may have been inherited from his father’s Tana Oil and Gas Corporation, but he sought out to build his own name, and consequently vastly expanded his fortune. Texaco purchased the company in 1989 in a $476 million deal that eventually financed the incorporation of his new venture, TRT Holdings. The company he owns and is Chairman of has investments in energy, hospitality, real estate and fitness since 1996. Of its most prominent acquisitions are Gold’s Gym and Omni Hotels for $180 million and $500 million respectively.

Boston native Sumner Murray Redstone was born on May 27, 1923 to Michael and Belle Ostrovsky Redstone. Graduating in 1944 from Harvard University, he immediately proceeded to secure an LL.B. from the educational institution’s elite School of Law in 1947. With a net value of $7.6 billion, he ranked as the 66th on Forbes World’s Richest in America 2008 as well as the 137th richest in the world.

After serving as the first National Association of Theatre Owners’ chairman of the board, Sumner Redstone continues to be actively involved in the association as a director. A particular long-term affiliation is with National Amusements Inc., for which he was President (1967-1999), and CEO (since 1967). Since 1986, the company has been the majority stockholder of Redstone’s Viacom Incorporated (NYSE: VIA) and CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS). For Viacom, he acted as chairman of the board (since 1986) and CEO (1996-2005). Following the creation of two separate entities, separating CBS from Viacom, he became Viacom Inc.’s executive chairman of the board of directors on January 1, 2006.

Most of Sumner Redstone’s philanthropic initiatives function through the Michael Redstone Charitable Trusts and the Sumner M. Redstone Charitable Foundation. In his many commitments, he currently sits as a member of the Board for the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and his Sumner M. Redstone Child Rescue Center.

He recounts one personally memorable encounter, where he met scoliosis victim Lyda. She moved him to contribute $500,000 to a group that made critical health care and educational services available to the children of Phnom Penh – The Cambodian Children’s Fund.

Another considerable and generous donation is Sumner Redstone’s charitable grants that total at an estimated $105 million. The amount is to be evenly distributed and regularly paid out to three prominent healthcare institutions over the course of five years. All the identified beneficiaries are to use the funds for medical discovery and clinical research development.

The Washington-based Faster Cures/The Center for Accelerating Medical Solutions, tied to the Milken Institute, will expand The Research Acceleration and Innovation Network (TRAIN) to include other non-profit disease research groups and renamed as The Redstone Acceleration and Innovation Network. Other programs include FasterCures Philanthropy Advisory Service and Patients Helping Doctors program. The second $35 million recipient is top non-university hospital Cedars-Sinai Prostate Cancer Center that will be able to pursue a six-year National Prostate Cancer Study. Lastly, the Massachusetts General Hospital, already with its Sumner M. Redstone Burn Center since 1974, will be able to establish the Sumner M. Redstone Burn and Trauma Service, as well as The Sumner M. Redstone Emergency Department.

Jeff Skoll devised the business model that helped launch eBay.

This Canadian-born businessman conceived of the idea of eBay with Pierre Omidyar. The popular story is that Skoll came up with the business plan when Omidyar and his fiancée expressed how difficult it was to find other people who collect Pez candy dispensers.

From humble beginnings, Clayton Mathile rose to great prominence, wealth, and influence. But more importantly, he is a figure of generosity with his wide range of philanthropic efforts.

After graduation, Clayton Mathile took the low-profile position of an accountant in Campbell Soup. After a few years, he accepted animal nutritionist Paul Iams’ offer to become his company’s general manager in 1970. Overseeing the five-man team that composed the entire pet food seller Iams, he became the company’s CEO and president. Clayton Mathile bought out his partner and became the sole owner of the company in 1982.

In redefining Iams, he championed the expansion of its product lines to include premium pet products targeted at the high-end market. His business acumen would steer Iams into its golden years, after which he sold it in 1999 to international conglomerate Procter & Gamble for the sum of $2.3 billion.

After resigning from corporate life, Clayton Mathile became freer to pursue his philanthropic commitments.

With his wife, MaryAnn, he founded the Mathile Family Foundation, which he currently heads. Their efforts have generated more than $130 million, all for the less privileged children and their families through several key non-profit organizations

He purchased 114 acres in Dayton with to construct the Aileron Center for Entrepreneurial Education. Currently, he sits as the institution’s board of directors. This establishment provides development assistance and educational training for those who seek to venture with their own businesses. The Mathile family has committed $50 million for this single advocacy.

Clayton Mathile is involved in The Glen at St. Joseph. This site houses 36 single mothers who take part in job trainings or work towards earning a college degree. The campus also provides accommodation for their children.

The Mathile Community Awards grants up to $5 million to support other projects of a similar philanthropic nature.

Bill Gates is the co-founder of Microsoft with Paul Allen, and the most visible CEO in the world.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a non-profit leader in global development. With a $31.9 billion endowment, the organization has provided $11 billion in grants since its 1994 inception. In 2006, Warren Buffet donated $10 million in shares to the foundation.

One program of the Gates Foundation is the Global Development Program, a program devoted to alleviating poverty and hunger in the developing world. This goal is to be achieved via a three pronged approach: supporting agricultural development, providing financial services for the poor, and increasing access to information through computing in libraries internationally.

The Gates Foundation Global Health Program devotes its resources two main areas. The first is increasing access to existing vaccines and drugs to fight common diseases in developing countries and the second is developing effective and practical healthcare solutions.
