Al Gore served as the Vice President of the United States, under President Bill Clinton. A Democrat from Tennessee, he has spent much of his life concerned with environmental issues, global climate change, and environmental policy. After an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in the 2000 election, Gore accepted several visiting professorships at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Middle Tennessee State University, UCLA, and Fisk University.

Gore starred in the film “An Inconvenient Truth,” which has increased the visibility of global warming, an environmental issue Gore has followed since the 1970’s. The documentary includes Gore’s recent speeches, talks, and research. Gore has also published a book under the same title.

Though no longer in public office, Gore continues to serve the American people. For example, in the days following the devastation of the Gulf Coast and New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina, Gore chartered 2 aircraft to evacuate 270 evacuees to safety.
