James E. Stowers founded the premier investment management firm American Century Companies. The company, formerly known as Twentieth Century Investors, boasts of assets close to $85 billion.

American Century Companies initially managed mutual funds. It has since metamorphosed into a globally-esteemed investment management firm headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.

James E. Stowers founded publishing house Stowers Innovations in 1990. Stowers Innovations published the acclaimed “Yes, You Can” books, which teach people how to improve their financial status. James Stowers believed in the value of helping others succeed.

  • James E. Stowers and wife Virginia Stowers founded the Stowers Institute to support Medical Research in Missouri to combat cancer.
  • As a non-profit biomedical research facility, the Stowers Institute vows to prevent, treat, and cure gene-related diseases by funding research into the genes and proteins that trigger them. The Stowers Institute hopes to better understand the hereditary mechanisms associated with cancer, diabetes, and dementia, among other debilitating illnesses. The Stowers couple has donated a total of $2 billion to cancer research.
