Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor, was among the first tycoons to develop assembly line manufacturing to automobile production. He was considered a pioneer in industrial production.
Together with Edsel Ford, Henry Ford’s son, they formed the Ford Foundation in 1936. Basically, the private organization, which is headquartered in New York City, intends to improve the wellbeing of society. It makes grants through its main office in New York and through its other offices across the globe. Its first international office, which was developed in 1952, is located in New Delhi, India.
Fords Foundation’s first donation was in support of the enhancement of the broadcasting system in 1951. Later on, it contributed $1 million to the Children’s Television Workshop in the creation and launching of Sesame Street.
In the fiscal year of 2007, Ford’s charity reported assets of $13.7 billion and made official its $530 million in donations for projects that center on strengthening democratic principles, community and economic advancement, media, human rights, education and arts and culture.
The Ford Foundation is the third biggest charitable organization in the United States. It expanded to serve causes across the country and throughout the world in 1950 and eventually sold all of the Ford Motor Company shares. Today, the foundation continues to focus on the goals first set by Henry Ford.
