David Rockefeller

David Rockefeller is the youngest and only surviving grandson of John D. Rockefeller, the founder of Standard Oil. Rockefeller followed in his philanthropist father’s footsteps after serving in the army, earning a PhD from the Rockefeller founded University of Chicago, and becoming a banker at Chase Manhattan Bank.

  • Rockefeller also established The David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, his alma mater. Rockefeller’s original gift of $15 million was increased to $25 million to expand its study abroad and internship opportunities as well as increase funding for lectures, film series, conferences, and other intellectual opportunities.
  • Rockefeller founded multiple organizations and societies for the advancement of arts and service. Among these are the Business Committee for the Arts, Dartmouth Conference, and International Executive Service Corps.
