Carlos Slim Helu Philanthropy
At age 69, Carlos Slim Helu has made a huge impact on the Telecommunications Industry in Mexico and Latin America. Owning a telecommunications conglomerate and two mobile network operators, Slim was named the third wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $35 billion from investments. Another venture of Helu is the America Movil, which is the fourth largest mobile network operator and the largest conglomerate in Latin America. A subsidiary of America Movil is Telcel, which is the foremost provider of wireless services in Mexico.
In 1996, Helu took over the Fundación Telmex, which has granted a total of 186,771 scholarships for the academically gifted students of Mexico. The foundation also supports social bonds, transplants, rural operations in the city, and offers humanitarian aid to populations distressed in natural disasters.
Carlos Slim Helu also organized the Fundación del Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de México, otherwise called the Mexico City Historical Center Foundation, a non-profit civil institution created in 2000. The following points are objectives of this foundation:
• More security and better public services
- Modernization of the drainage infrastructure and renewal of sidewalks; installment of new security equipment in security vehicles that roam around the vicinity of the Historical Center
• Economic and social wellbeing of its inhabitants
- Hospitals, asylums and health clinics get support for better apparatuses;
Better education, improvement of academic level in teaching staff
• Revitalization
- Providing housing at reasonable prices, invites services, commercial and entertainment businesses to settle and establish in the area
• Restoration and conservation of Buildings
- Convert and develop real properties used as warehouse and offices into houses
The foundation’s major goal is to rescue Mexico City’s historic downtown and possibly get more people to work, live and find entertainment in the urban space. Carlos Slim Helu is the Historical Center’s Executive Officer and Chairman.

Represento uma associacao de mulheres que luta pelo bem estar das comunidades carentes ha mais de dez anos em Mandlakazi,Sul de Mocambique.Esta luta constante pelobem estar da comunidade fez com que eu grangeasse a confianca da populacao e a 9 de Fevereiro de 2009 tomei posse como presidente da minha cidade com 99% de votos.Trata-se de uma comunidade carente,onde a situacao da saude ainda se torna bastante constrangedora,Assim ,venho com toda a humildade possivel pedir a Vossa Excia que seja parceiro desta vila no interior de Africa e interaja connosco na area de saude e educacao.Ficariamos muito gratos se nos apoiasse na construcao de um centro de saude do tipo III orcada em cerca de trezentos mil Dollares Americanos.Pedimos encarecidamente que veja esta questao com carinho e esta convidado desde ja a visitar-nos logo que poder, principalmente se vier ao Mundial na Africa do Sul pois estara bem proximo de nossa cidade.
