Kenneth Langone

Kenneth Langone is best known as the co-founder of Home Depot. Born to working class parents in Roslyn Heights, New York, Ken Langone achieved his BA from Bucknell University and his MBA from NYU. As an investment banker, Ken Langone achieved notoriety when he took Electronic Data Systems, INC. public in 1968 at 118 percent earnings. In 1974, Ken Langone founded investment banking firm Invemed Associates, Inc. and bought his first seat on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1978, he partnered with Bernard Marcus and Arthur Blank to found Home Depot, which today is one of the largest and most successful chains in the home improvement industry. He has contributed almost $150 million dollars to various charities.

  • Kenneth Langone has donated $11 million dollars to Bucknell University to finance a new Athletics and Recreation Center and $6.5 million to NYU's Stern School to endow the Kenneth G. Langone Part-time Evening MBA program.
  • Ken Langone contributes to charities funding medical research and treatment and providing education and services to the disadvantaged. Some of these charities include Cancer Research Fund of Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation, The Children's Oncology Society (Ronald McDonald House), Tomorrow's Hope Foundation, Harlem Children's Zone, and The Robin Hood Foundation.
  • Ken Langone is responsible for the success of Ken's Kids, a start-up organization through Home Depot which provides job training and employment to youths ages 18-21 with disabilities in Philadelphia. Ken's Kids receives personal financial contributions from Kenneth Langone and currently helps dozens of young people achieve financial independence.
