Dame Anita Perella Roddick was an activist and entrepreneur. Born on October 23rd 1942 in Littlehampton, Sussex, United Kingdom, she was also a human rights supporter and an environmentalist. She established The Body Shop, a worldwide retail of stores of over 2000. Her business sells ethically made cosmetics and body creams and shares awareness of the environment and global social issues. She also pioneered the current trend of going green.
Anita Roddick established the Children on the Edge Foundation in 1990. The foundation’s purpose is aimed at defending the rights of the youth from all over the world. Through the charitable organization, children are assured that they are given significance, protected and their needs are met. It is further committed to support all the children’s rights “in accordance with the principles and provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.”
As part of her contributions to philanthropy, the environment and business, she published several books, such as Take it Personally: How to Make Conscious Choices to Change the World, Troubled Water: Saints, Sinners, Truth & Lies About the Global Water Crisis, Body and Soul: Profits with Principles and Business as Unusual: The Triumph of Anita Roddick.
